Leatherhead Day Meeting Results |
A long awaited return after 8 years away to an old style and well established course in the Surrey hills.Tight and often narrow fairways required accurate rather than long drives, which coupled with very damp conditions under foot saw a challenging day for many.Much credit must go to the green staff for managing to reopen it in time for our visit.Fortunately mild temperatures with little wind allowed many of the members to accept the challenge and score well. The winner Joe Tiwana amassing a very creditable 39 points, closely followed by Steve Collier on 37 in second place and in third place on count back was Colin Griffiths with 35 points.Full results can be found on the website, |

Sonning Pairs day meeting |
A smaller than usual entry for the pairs competition at a new venue for this event, saw 12 teams competing over 29 holes. Sonning GC provided a course in great condition and the usual all round test. Most teams took advantage of a dry but windy morning for 11 holes, before the afternoon 18 holes. The weather taking a turn for the worst over lunch with rain adding to the strong winds, a couple of teams mastered these tricky conditions to add to the morning round, this resulted in a tightly packed top of the leaderboard with 4 points separating the top 3.Congratulations to Lee Carpenter and Lincoln Dowe for edging out Jim Griffiths and Roger Woof. The excellent lunch and dinner compensating some of the teams for their on course performances, making it a day enjoyed by all for one reason or another, and a venue to look forward to retuning to next year.Full results on the website, |

Betchworth Park results |
The annual visit to Betchworth GC near Dorking brought with it the hoped for change in weather, and a warm sunny day welcomed us to one of the best presented courses on the schedule. Set on the slopes of the Surrey hills with views to Box Hill it provides a strenuous physical work out to accompany the golf. The sunshine and dry weather combined with the challenges of this course provided the usual test.A morning team game allowed us to see some of the challenges ahead for the afternoon's singles. The winning team putting together 58 points.Unusually, the afternoon singles were for 2 separate trophies, one based on handicaps and the second off scratch. Tyrone Houston continued his winning streak from last months meeting winning with a creditable 41 points from Greg Lowe. Both proving the course was tameable. The scratch trophy went to John De Rebello (27pts) who also showed the course to be a true test of all aspects of your game even for the lower handicapped members. The good weather, great facilities and excellent lunch and dinner meant a day enjoyed by all, regardless of individual results, and everyone look forward to returning next year. The results from the day are now available on the website, |
